On Friday, the Consumers’ Association, better known as Which?, announced the UK’s best motorway service stations for 2014.
Today, TrackCompare.co.uk brings you the full list of 26 – all used by commercial drivers – rated by Which? members for toilet cleanliness, queues for toilets, quality of own-brand food/drink outlets, quality of other food/drinks outlets, queues at food and drink outlets, value for money of own-brand food/drinks outlets and value for money of other food/drink outlets.
Heading the table is Tebay Services, located just off the M6 in Cumbria. With a customer score of 90%, it was the favourite by far. Wetherby, the next highest, scored 69%. Charnock Richard, on the M6 – the lowest rated – came in at just 39%.
Tebay, part of the family-owned Westmoreland business, provides high quality services and sells home-grown food and local produce in its farm shop and restaurant.
The survey was based on more than 3,000 visits by Which? members and compared a number of service station brands, including Extra, Moto, Roadchef and Welcome Break.
Extra, which owns two of the top five motorway services, came first in the Which? survey of service station brands.
The six motorway services at the base of the table are all owned by Welcome break.
Which? editor Richard Headland, said: “Our research shows there’s a big difference in the standards you can expect when you pull into a motorway service station. We also found that you can save a packet if you plan ahead and find cheaper alternatives along the route.”
